2 Men Arrested For Recruiting Themselves & Impersonating As Military Officers

Police operatives from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Special Squad have arrested two young men, Musa Muhammad, 18 and Jasilu Ladan, 22, for allegedly recruiting themselves into the Nigeria Military. Ajapareporter.com reports that the suspects were arrested at the Military Cantoment in Ikeja area of Lagos, where they went and were wearing Military uniforms with Identity cards before they were caught. They were handed over to the Police and detained at the Command headquarters for interrogation over their alleged conduct, during which they confessed that they actually recruited themselves because they wanted to be Military officers and had no such opportunity. They pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence. The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned till 7th August, 2024, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
