Senator Abbo Denies R@pe Allegation, Accuses Mother of Fabricating Story to Cover Theft

Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo, former representative of Adamawa North, has fiercely refuted a viral Sahara Reporters story alleging he attempted to rape a 13-year-old schoolgirl and her 16-year-old sister at his Abuja residence.

‎In a fiery counter-defense shared via his media aide, Anthony Zira Guy, with TGNews on October 3, 2025, Abbo labeled the accusations a “dangerous blackmail” orchestrated by the mother of Khadija Muhammad, whom he accuses of stealing his wife’s jewelry worth millions of naira.

‎Zira described the mother as a “drug addict” who demanded N5 million and withdrawal of her daughter’s theft case, threatening to smear Abbo’s reputation with rape allegations if he refused.

‎According to Zira, Abbo reported the jewelry theft to the police, acting with magnanimity toward the family. However, the mother retaliated by vowing to tarnish his public image, culminating in a petition filed by D.I. Aiyedun & Co. to the Inspector General of Police, accusing Abbo of the heinous crimes.

‎Demonstrating his commitment to transparency, Abbo honored a police invitation to address the allegations, confidently asserting his innocence.

‎“Even when I have nothing personal against you, once a report is written to security agencies, they will invite you. If you are innocent, go, answer questions, collect bail, and let your lawyers do the job—never run,” Zira quoted Abbo, emphasizing his resolve to face the accusations head-on.

‎Zira portrayed Abbo as a compassionate leader whose goodwill toward people remains unshaken despite the scandal. “This dangerous blackmail has gone wrong and cannot change his mindset toward humanity,” he stated, decrying the exploitation of prominent figures in Nigeria’s public space as “cash cows” for extortion.

‎He accused the mother of leveraging Abbo’s goodwill to cover her daughter’s theft and extort N5 million, warning that such schemes are a growing menace against well-meaning politicians.

‎Zira expressed confidence in the police, urging a thorough investigation to ensure justice and expose the truth behind the allegations.

‎The aide framed the accusations as part of a broader pattern of politically motivated attacks, alleging that Abbo’s enemies in Adamawa State, envious of his enduring popularity, sponsored the smear campaign through “hired media” outlets like Sahara Reporters, which he accused of peddling “hate speech” without verifying facts.

‎This is not Abbo’s first brush with controversy; in 2019, he faced allegations of assaulting a woman in Abuja, which he denied, and in 2023, his senatorial election was annulled over electoral irregularities, though he maintained his innocence.

‎Zira dismissed the latest claims as a recycled tactic to derail Abbo’s political aspirations, vowing that “this cannot deter him or discourage him from keeping his eyes on the goal. He is moving to the finish line of victory.”

‎Zira’s statement highlighted broader concerns about the vulnerability of public figures to blackmail, noting that “many good-hearted individuals are being maligned for no reason,” with some exploiting such schemes as a business.

‎He urged the general public to disregard such claims against a good-hearted man, Senator Abbo, a Christian from Mubi known for his philanthropy and advocacy, and called on the media to verify stories before publishing to avoid amplifying falsehoods.

‎As the police probe deepens, Abbo remains steadfast, with his team confident that the truth will vindicate him in this high-stakes battle against what they call a vengeful and desperate plot.Click to read full news
