The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of one of its officers, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, a military doctor who was allegedly set ablaze by his wife, Retyit Obadiah Haruna, at the Willington Bassey Barracks in Akwa Ibom State.
In a statement released by the 2 Brigade’s Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lawal Muhammad, the incident happened on September 22, 2025, following a domestic dispute between the couple.
Haruna, who served as the Regimental Medical Officer of the 6 Battalion, sustained severe burns after his wife reportedly set their home on fire during the altercation. The couple, married for only six months, were said to have been facing ongoing family issues before the situation turned deadly.
