Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Benibo Anabraba to uphold the honor and responsibility that comes with his position while using his experience in public service.
The governor speaking at the swearing in of the SSG during a media coverage by Symfoni TV, he highlighted the significance of the SSG position in Rivers State’s administrative history. “What has brought you in at this particular time to be the secretary to the government of River State is a real opportunity. We can count the number of SSG we’ve had in from the inception of River State, but you can’t count the number of commissioners. There are too many. So it’s a position of honor,” he said.

The governor charged Anabraba to maintain the dignity of the office throughout his tenure. “So I want you to guard that office with honor. Discharge your duty with respect. Protect the interests of River State. When you leave the office, I want you to leave the office with honor, and you can only leave it with honor when you discharge your duty responsibly,” Governor Fubara stated.
He expressed confidence in the new SSG based on his previous service to the state. “I have no doubt that you’re going to perform well. I know you’re a former member of the River State House of Assembly. As a matter of fact, you were a principal officer at that time. I think minority leader. You were also one of my commissioners and I knew within the period when we worked you did well. You’re a very dedicated person,” the governor said.
Governor Fubara cautioned against viewing the position as an opportunity for personal aggrandizement. “So this opportunity is not an opportunity to show power. It’s not a position of I have a very big office, it is a call to duty,” he emphasized.
The governor concluded by acknowledging the challenges facing his administration and the need to restore public confidence. “We’re coming from a very, very, very bad position.
