The suspended Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has returned to the institution to a grand reception despite ongoing allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of office.
Sources told SaharaReporters on Tuesday that the university’s Governing Council, led by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, organised what was described as a “shameless and academically embarrassing” event to reinstate the embattled VC.
Fasina, who was earlier sanctioned for allegedly making sexual advances toward a married staff member, Engineer Adebayo Folashade, was welcomed with pomp, tight security, and what insiders called a “security guard of honour.”

According to a university insider, the decision by the Council has sparked outrage across the FUOYE community. “Today, 14th October 2025, FUOYE Governing Council and University Management jointly organised a shameless and academically embarrassing ‘Security Guard of Honour’ to welcome back a suspended sexual offender (Fasina) to office,” the source said.
The insider accused the Council Chairman, Senator Ndoma-Egba, of fostering corruption and financial recklessness within the university. “Ndoma-Egba has become a symbol of shame to the Federal Ministry of Education,” the source alleged, citing “records of reckless looting and mismanagement” under his leadership.
Fasina had earlier been suspended following allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct, with the Council directing him to proceed on leave as his tenure had elapsed. His reinstatement, however, has raised fresh concerns about accountability and ethics in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
Stakeholders, including staff unions, have since petitioned the Federal Ministry of Education, demanding an independent investigation into the management of FUOYE by both Ndoma-Egba and Fasina.
On October 9, 2025, concerned staff of the university petitioned the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, accusing the duo of running FUOYE like a “private enterprise” and engaging in financial irregularities.
The petition, signed by Comrade Kamal Odunjo-Saka, alleged fraudulent fund approvals, inflated contracts, diversion of internally generated revenue, and the suppression of unions and statutory officers who questioned irregularities.
The petitioners warned that the institution’s credibility was collapsing, noting that FUOYE, once among Nigeria’s fastest-growing universities, now faces a decline that could lead to loss of accreditation, disrupted academic calendars, and possible industrial crises.
They urged the Minister of Education to intervene urgently to restore transparency, accountability, and discipline in the university’s administration.
Earlier in April, it was reported that Professor Fasina had defied a directive from the Council to hand over to Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shittu, following his suspension over the sexual harassment allegations.
Despite these controversies, Fasina’s return to campus has once again drawn public attention to the deep-rooted governance and ethical crises plaguing FUOYE.
