BREAKING: Uzodimma: Tinubu’s Achievements Drawing Opposition Governors to APC

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has said the growing wave of defections by opposition governors and lawmakers to the ruling All Progressives Congress is a direct result of President Bola Tinubu’s performance and leadership style.

Uzodimma made the statement during the APC stakeholders’ meeting in Kebbi State held on Friday, as seen in a viral video clip that trended on social media the same day.

The meeting followed the Progressive Governors’ Forum session, which took place on Thursday.

In the viral video, Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum, told the gathering that the influx of politicians into the APC was not accidental but an expression of confidence in Tinubu’s administration.

Nothing can beat this! Let me tell you the truth; there is only one political party in Nigeria, and that party is the All Progressives Congress,” Uzodimma declared amid cheers from party supporters.

“Haven’t you seen it on television? If you go to the National Assembly, you’ll see senators and members of the House of Representatives leaving their parties and joining the APC. Across the states too, governors are defecting to the APC.

“This is not happening by accident; it is driven by conviction that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has performed. It is a testament to the fact that Nigeria is working again,” he added.

The governor said the country was witnessing what he described as a “national history in the making,” crediting Tinubu with what he termed the recovery, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of Nigeria.

“In the APC, we will not only be congratulated for providing leadership; President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be commended for his role in recovering, reconstructing, and rehabilitating Nigeria.

He will be remembered in history as the man who came, saw, and succeeded,” Uzodimma said.

He further assured party members in Kebbi of the solidarity of their counterparts across the federation, praising their leaders for what he described as “doing well” in advancing the APC’s mission.

The Imo governor’s remarks came amid a series of high-pro

to the ruling party, a development that has significantly altered Nigeria’s political landscape in recent weeks.

Just last week, Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC, pledging his commitment to Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

His move came barely five months after Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, also defected to the APC, citing the need to align with the Federal Government to accelerate development in his state.

Similarly, Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has defected to the ruling party.

Multiple lawmakers at both state and federal levels have also switched allegiance in recent weeks, including legislators from the PDP, Labour Party, and New Nigeria Peoples Party.

Political observers say the trend may lead to a de facto one-party dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Critics, however, have described the wave of defections as a threat to Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.

The African Democratic Congress recently accused the APC of masterminding what it called “a political absorption strategy” aimed at weakening the opposition.

Similarly, the PDP condemned the defections, alleging inducements and intimidation by the ruling party.

Despite the backlash, APC leaders have continued to celebrate the growing membership of the party, saying it reflects national confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership.

Speaking during the reception of Governor Mbah in Enugu, Vice President Kashim Shettima said the “gale of defections” proved that Nigerians had renewed trust in the APC-led administration.
