Ghana is mourning the passing of its former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who died at the age of 76 after a brief illness on Thursday morning.

As First Lady, Nana Konadu founded the 31st December Women’s Movement, a non-governmental organisation named after the date of her husband’s 1981 coup. The movement focused on empowering women, promoting self-reliance, and encouraging community development across Ghana.

Tributes have flooded social media from across the nation, with many hailing her as a trailblazer for women’s rights and a pillar of strength in Ghana’s political history. Presidential spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu confirmed her death, describing her as a woman whose legacy “will continue to inspire generations.”
