BREAKING: PDP Northern Leaders Back Jonathan’s Former Minister Tanimu Turaki for National Chairman

In a landmark development, Northern stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have formally endorsed Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as their consensus candidate for the position of National Chairman.

The decision, which emerged after a series of intensive consultations, was announced at the just-concluded Northern PDP stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja. The group unanimously adopted Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs under former President Goodluck Jonathan, as the region’s preferred choice ahead of the party’s 2025 elective national convention.

According to a video shared on Symfoni TV, the endorsement was described as a significant step toward fostering unity and strategic leadership within the party, particularly as it prepares for the national convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Party insiders revealed that the Northern PDP bloc sees Turaki as a bridge-builder with the experience and political maturity required to reposition the PDP for victory in the 2027 general elections.

Turaki, who hails from Kebbi State, is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a founding member of the PDP. His endorsement has been widely interpreted as an effort by the Northern caucus to consolidate their influence and ensure equitable representation within the party’s national structure.

With this development, all eyes are now on the forthcoming convention in Ibadan, where delegates from across the country will decide whether the consensus reached by the Northern stakeholders will shape the final outcome of the party’s leadership race.
