BREAKING: Imo Police Bust Multiple Crime Rings, Arrest 928 Suspects and Recover 17 Firearms in Six Months

A massive security breakthrough has been recorded in Imo State as the Police Command announced the arrest of 928 criminal suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons, including 673 live cartridges, 17 firearms, and 72 rounds of ammunition, within just six months of intensified operations. The disclosure was made by the State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters, Owerri, on Friday, October 25, 2025.

The arrests, which cut across cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, child trafficking, and other violent crimes, were part of a renewed offensive against criminal networks terrorizing communities across the state. According to CP Danjuma, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit played a pivotal role in dismantling several syndicates, leading to the rescue of nine kidnapped victims and seven stolen children—all safely reunited with their families after weeks of investigation and surveillance.

Highlighting some of the Command’s biggest breakthroughs, Danjuma revealed the arrest of six high-profile kidnappers identified as Chijioke Nwakaudu, Chibuike Ajaere, Richard Ugochukwu, Chuka Anene, Christian Emekwe, and Emeka Emezume. The suspects, who had been on the police wanted list, were linked to multiple abductions across Imo and neighboring Anambra State. Their arrest reportedly led to further recoveries in Obosi, including seven AK-47 rifles, nine pump-action guns, four pistols, 250 rounds of GPMG ammunition, 910 cartridges, and large quantities of suspected narcotics.

The Police Commissioner further revealed that the gang confessed to several kidnappings, including that of 25-year-old Ugochukwu Favour Nwachinemere from Ikembara, Ikeduru LGA—whose family allegedly paid ₦5 million ransom—and the abduction of Mr. Ikechukwu on October 9, 2025. Intelligence sources confirmed that the suspects have been cooperating with investigators, providing leads expected to aid further raids on criminal hideouts across Imo and Anambra States.

CP Danjuma also paraded recovered exhibits such as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), charms, counterfeit currency, laptops used for cyber fraud, and hard drugs seized during various raids. He praised the professionalism and tactical precision of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, which, according to him, has restored public confidence in law enforcement within the state. “We have shown that criminality cannot thrive where the people and the police work hand in hand,” he emphasized.

He urged residents to continue providing credible information that could assist the police in tracking down criminal elements still operating within rural communities. “We remain committed to ensuring Imo remains safe for all. The fight against insecurity is not for the police alone—it’s a shared responsibility,” he stated.

Security analysts say the latest figures represent one of the most significant policing successes in the South-East in 2025, a year marked by rising concerns over organized crime and violent abductions. The Imo Police Command, under CP Danjuma, has now positioned itself as one of the most proactive commands in the country, sending a strong message to criminal elements that the era of unchecked lawlessness is over.
