Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Friday, appointed his elder brother, Alh Adamu Mohammed-Duguri, as the 1st Emir of the newly created Duguri Emirate in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the State.
Mohammed-Duguri, a retired Assistant Controller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), is also the current Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Bauchi State. He was also the District Head of Yelwan Duguri.
Duguri Emirate is one of the 13 new Emirates recently created by the Governor.
The Governor signed the bill passed by the Bauchi State House of Assembly, after its first and second reading, which created Jema’a, Duguri, Warji, Burra, Dambam, Giade, Bununu, Lere, Toro, Lame, Gamawa, Ari and Darazo Emirates as well as Zaar Chiefdom.

This brings to 19, the total number of emirate councils in Bauchi State and one chiefdom.
The letter of appointment was presented to the new Emir of Duguri, by the Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Aminu Hammayo who led top government officials to the 1st Class Chief’s Palace in Duguri.
Hammayo who charged the new Emir to promote peace, unity and uphold justice, truth, and fairness in his domain, expressed optimism that under the royal father’s reign, the new emirate would experience greater progress and stability.
He added that the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions as vital partners in community development and grassroots governance.
In his response, the new Emir commended the Governor for his foresight to give a sense of belonging to every part of the state, and lauded the State House of Assembly for its thorough job.
Duguri vowed to advance education through enrollment of children and promotion of good health among his subjects. He also pledged to promote peace and tranquility.
