The President General of the Ogwashi-Uku Development Association (ODA), Mr. Izu Osamor, has been arrested by operatives from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Reliable community sources confirmed that Mr. Osamor was picked up by crack detectives at his residence in Ogwashi-Uku on Saturday, 25th October 2025. Police authorities in Abuja have also confirmed the arrest, though official details regarding the charges remain undisclosed as at press time.
However, strong indications from multiple credible sources within the community suggest that the arrest may be connected to recent allegations made by Mr. Osamor and some ODA executives against His Royal Majesty, Obi (Dr.) Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom.

In a series of public statements and media appearances, the ODA leadership had accused the revered monarch of bringing “mercenaries” into the community to rape, kill, and kidnap residents — as well as branding him a land grabber involved in “serious criminal activities.”
A prominent Chief of the Kingdom, reacting to the development, described the allegations as reckless, defamatory, and deeply injurious to the dignity of the throne, noting that such grave claims must be substantiated before law enforcement authorities.
“You cannot accuse a First-Class Traditional Ruler on television, radio and social media of such serious crimes without evidence. The police have every right to invite those making such statements to substantiate them. The ODA executives have for years engaged in a campaign of defamation and demarketing against the Obi, and this must stop,” the Chief said.
“The Obi has endured in silence over the years as a father to all, but silence should never be mistaken for guilt. It is time for these allegations to be tested before the law. In fact, the ODA should welcome the police involvement so these issues can be sorted out.” he added.
Observers recall that just two days before the arrest — on Thursday, 23rd October 2025 — members of the ODA staged a protest at the Delta State Government House, Asaba, where they presented a petition containing similar allegations against the Obi.
Despite reportedly hiring 18 buses to mobilize protesters from Ogwashi-Uku, the turnout was dismal, with only two buses eventually making the trip. Eyewitnesses said barely 20 participants, including a hired group of singers, arrived at the protest venue.
During the protest, the ODA accused the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku of land grabbing and serious offenses and condemned judgments delivered by the Delta State High Courts. A very senior government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, dismissed the protest as ill-advised, stating that the executive arm of government cannot act as a court of appeal.
“We understand that the ODA is a voluntary civic organization meant to promote development, not to interfere in traditional or administrative matters. They should allow the Obi to lead in peace,” the official stated.
He further condemned the delibrate use of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s photographs during the protest, describing it as an unfortunate attempt to demarket a globally respected icon who has no involvement in the controversy.
As at the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Force Public Relations Officer at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to his phone went unanswered.
