Spotify has unveiled its list of the Top 5 Female Afrobeats Artists of the past year, placing Nigerian sensation Ayra Starr at the top.
The streaming platform described Ayra Starr as “the pop star of Afrobeats,” highlighting her global rise and consistent chart-topping performances.
Grammy winner Tems secured the second spot, while Libianca, the American-Cameroonian singer behind global hit People, ranked third. Aya Nakamura, the Malian-French hitmaker, followed in fourth place, with Darkoo, a British-Nigerian artist, rounding out the top five.
In a surprising twist, South African breakout star Tyla, who swept multiple Afrobeats awards in the past year, did not appear on the list.
Spotify also released a Top 5 Afrobeats Artists in Latin America ranking, which was dominated entirely by Nigerians. Rema led the chart, with Ayra Starr again securing a strong position at number two. CKay, known for the viral hit Love Nwantiti, came in third, followed by global heavyweights Burna Boy and Wizkid in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
The rankings further cement Nigeria’s influence in shaping the Afrobeats sound, not just across Africa but also in key international markets like Latin America.
