Barcelona have confirmed that midfielder Gavi will be sidelined for around four to five months after undergoing surgery to repair a medial meniscus injury in his knee.
The 21-year-old Spain international had an arthroscopy on Tuesday to suture and preserve the meniscus, the club announced. Gavi, who tore a cruciate ligament in the same knee in 2023, has not played since August, with initial hopes that conservative treatment could avoid surgery proving unsuccessful.
His absence is a major blow for Xavi’s side, who face Real Oviedo in La Liga on Thursday, Real Sociedad on Sunday, and Paris Saint-Germain next week in the Champions League. Gavi is expected to return in early 2026, ahead of a year in which Spain will be among the favourites for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
