Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has backed Chelsea to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League crown alongside Liverpool and Arsenal this season.
Liverpool, under new manager Arne Slot, lifted the title in his debut campaign after edging out Arsenal, who have finished runners-up in the past three seasons under Mikel Arteta. Both sides strengthened heavily in the summer, with Liverpool spending a British record £446m and Arsenal investing over £250m.
Liverpool currently sit three points clear at the top of the table, with Arsenal joint second. While many expect the title race to be between the two, Aguero believes Chelsea should not be underestimated.
“Chelsea are most definitely one of the teams to beat in the Premier League this season,” Aguero told Stake. “They come from playing two seasons with a young roster that still needed to grow into the Premier League. Now their side feels more mature, with a strong, steady performance.
“Consistency is key in the Premier League, and the most consistent winner will likely have a shot at the title. That could be Chelsea, if they keep up the fight until the very end.”
Aguero also noted that his former club, Manchester City, remain strong contenders in the race.
