The Chairman of the Bayelsa State Volunteer Security outfit, High Chief Lucky Asanakpo, alongside members of the outfit, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pledging continued loyalty and support to Governor Douye Diri.
Speaking in his office in Yenagoa, High Chief Asanakpo explained that their decision to leave the PDP was made in solidarity with Governor Diri, who recently announced his resignation from the party. He noted that as committed followers who believe in the governor’s leadership and vision for Bayelsa, it was only natural for them to stand with him.

According to the Volunteer Chairman, Governor Diri has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities, marked by a deep understanding of the aspirations and challenges of his people. He expressed confidence that the governor’s decision to leave the PDP was taken in the overall interest of the state and its development.
High Chief Asanakpo commended the governor’s performance across various sectors of the state’s economy, noting that his administration has recorded remarkable progress in infrastructure, education, power and security.
He cited several landmark projects including the ongoing three senatorial roads, the nine-storey secretariat complex, and the procurement of new gas turbines to enhance power supply. He also highlighted the prevailing peace and security across the state as a testament to Governor Diri’s people-centered governance.
“As a government, we have seen how the governor has deployed advanced security technology to protect both urban and rural communities. Today, Bayelsans can sleep with both eyes closed,” Asanakpo said, urging residents to continue supporting the governor’s vision for a prosperous Bayelsa.
While appreciating the PDP for the platform and opportunities it had provided over the years, the Chairman reaffirmed the commitment of his team to serve the interest of the people under the leadership of Governor Diri.
In his remarks, Hon. Douye Ikputu, the Kolokuma/Opokuma Coordinator of the Bayelsa Volunteer outfit, who moved the motion for the collective resignation, stated that the decision was made to consolidate support for the Prosperity Administration led by Governor Diri.
The motion was seconded by Woyinboloufini Perewari, Coordinator of Southern Ijaw Constituency 2 and unanimously endorsed by all members.
