The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Mohammed Saliu at Kuje Correctional Centre, pending the hearing of his bail application.
Saliu is facing a three-count charge for allegedly conspiring to defraud Baba-Bello Suleiman of $12,400.
At his arraignment, Saliu pleaded guilty to the first count. However, his lawyer, Ada Usman, questioned whether his client understood the charge, citing possible issues with the English-to-Hausa interpretation, despite the presence of a court interpreter.

Justice Emeka Nwite and the prosecution questioned this claim, noting the charges were interpreted in Hausa.
Saliu later pleaded not guilty to the second and third counts.
He told the court he was unaware the case was scheduled and was unprepared, which he said influenced his initial guilty plea.
His lawyer stated that a bail application had been filed since January. The judge questioned why it was only being presented in October.
The prosecution said it would oppose the bail application, citing the delay in bringing the defendant to court.
