BREAKING: Flying Eagles Captain Bameyi Eyes U-20 World Cup Triumph in Chile

Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi has declared that Nigeria’s U-20 team will be aiming for the title at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

Nigeria, who have twice reached the final of the competition—in 1989 and 2005—lost on both occasions to Portugal and Argentina. The Flying Eagles were knocked out in the quarter-finals two years ago by South Korea in Argentina.

Bameyi, speaking after the team’s first training session in Santiago, expressed optimism about their chances this time.

“It still hurts to be eliminated by Korea in the quarterfinal in 2023 and now we want to do better,” he said. “The spirit in the team is high and we will use the friendlies (against Chile and Australia) to assess ourselves and also get to know what to expect. We want to make history.”

Aliyu Zubairu’s side have been drawn in Group F alongside Norway, Colombia, and Saudi Arabia. The Flying Eagles will open their campaign against Norway on Monday, September 29.
