BREAKING: Fubara Inspects Fire-Damaged Rivers Secretariat, Directs Swift Rehabilitation

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has described as “unfortunate” the Monday evening fire that razed a section of the State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt, vowing swift government action to rehabilitate the affected area.

The inferno, which destroyed the section housing a creche for babies of civil servants, was swiftly contained by firefighters.

The Governor, who visited the scene on Tuesday morning, personally inspected the extent of damage.

Fubara was received amid cheers from jubilant civil servants, the Head of Service, and several Permanent Secretaries, including the newly sworn-in Austin Ezekiel-Hart.

Speaking after the inspection, the Governor thanked God that no life was lost, noting that the damage was limited to one wing of the complex.

He said, “It’s really unfortunate, but we give God the glory that no life was lost and the damage was confined to a single section.”

Fubara said the incident underscored the urgent need to expedite the long-planned renovation of the ageing Secretariat Complex.

“We’ve been talking about the renovation of this iconic complex. With this incident, there’ll be no more delay. Whatever it takes, we’ll commence rehabilitation immediately,” he assured.

The Governor praised the Rivers State Fire Service for its prompt response, stressing that his administration’s earlier investments in fire infrastructure paid off.

“We took time to strengthen our fire service before now. I wonder what would have happened if we didn’t have a functional system in place,” he remarked.

Fubara also commended civil servants for their steadfastness and support, reiterating his administration’s resolve to improve their welfare and deliver people-centered governance.

“We’ll keep doing things that uplift our people and make Rivers State a happier, safer place for all,” he added. Please Help Us Follow Trending News Channel on WhatsApp
