BREAKING: I Was Made Chief Free Of Charge; All Expenses Were Paid By The Obiama People – Asari Dokubo

In a recent video shared on Facebook, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, the prominent Niger Delta leader and former militant commander, spoke about his traditional title and the recognition he has received from local communities, highlighting the role of the Obiama people in honoring him.

“I was made Chief free of charge; all expenses were paid by the Obiama people,” Dokubo said, emphasizing that his chieftaincy was conferred on him without personal cost, a gesture he described as a testament to the respect and trust the community has for him. He praised the Obiama people for their generosity and support, framing it as a reflection of the strong bond between traditional leadership and the community.

Dokubo used the opportunity to reiterate his commitment to preserving the cultural heritage and autonomy of the Kalabari and broader Niger Delta people. “The realms of what the Kalabari people stand for, their beliefs, and the key are in my hands,” he said, underlining his role as a custodian of his people’s traditions. He also reaffirmed, “I’m not ready to let go of what my father handed over to me,” highlighting the importance of continuity in leadership and cultural stewardship.

He also commented on the broader political context, criticizing those in power who, in his view, manipulate the Constitution and control security forces to maintain dominance over minority groups. “They have the power, the police, everybody is with them,” Dokubo remarked, reflecting ongoing challenges for communities seeking fairness and equality.

The chieftaincy recognition by the Obiama people, Dokubo said, strengthens his resolve to protect and promote the values, traditions, and rights of his community. His remarks underscore the enduring significance of traditional authority in Nigeria and the respect it commands among local populations.
