Manchester City kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Napoli on Thursday night.
Pep Guardiola’s side found it difficult to break down Antonio Conte’s men until a key moment midway through the game, when Giovanni Di Lorenzo was shown a straight red card for a last-man challenge on Erling Haaland.
Haaland capitalised soon after, heading in Phil Foden’s cross to give City the lead. Jeremy Doku then sealed the win with a dazzling solo effort.
Elsewhere, Marcus Rashford enjoyed a triumphant return to England, netting twice as Barcelona edged Newcastle United 2-1 at St James’ Park. Anthony Gordon pulled one back late on, but it proved only a consolation for the hosts.
In other results, Club Brugge outclassed Monaco 4-1, Eintracht Frankfurt swept past Galatasaray 5-1, while Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw by FC Copenhagen.
