
Team Nigeria has kicked off the 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships in spectacular fashion, as Esther Nworgu clinched a silver medal in the 50kg category, while Rukayat Opeyemi Ajiboye added to Nigeria’s medal tally with a bronze medal in the same class on Saturday afternoon.
The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, congratulated the athletes on their outstanding performances, commending their relentless drive and patriotic spirit.
The duo displayed strength and grit in the 50kg weigh class, only to narrowly miss out on the gold medal.

The ongoing championship, holding from October 9–18, 2025, marks a historic milestone as the first-ever World Para Powerlifting Championship to be hosted on African soil.
