Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has hailed Barcelona midfielder Pedri as his “new favourite footballer” following the Catalan club’s 2-1 Champions League victory over Newcastle United on Thursday night.
A brace from Marcus Rashford sealed the win for Barcelona at St James’ Park, while Anthony Gordon netted a late consolation for the hosts.
Despite Rashford’s heroics, Scholes was particularly impressed with Pedri’s commanding display in midfield, where he and Frenkie de Jong dictated the tempo throughout the encounter.
The former England international shared his admiration on Instagram, posting: “Pedri my new favorite footballer,” accompanied by a love emoji.
Pedri will now look to carry his fine form into LaLiga action this weekend against Getafe under new manager Hansi Flick.
