BREAKING: Sudanese Club Al Hilal Confirms Sunday Adetunji’s Nationality Switch from Nigeria to Sudan

Sudanese giants Al Hilal have confirmed that Nigerian forward Sunday Adetunji has officially switched his nationality from Nigeria to Sudan.

The announcement was made on Tuesday via a post on the club’s official page.

The former Rivers United striker is now eligible to represent the Sudanese national team and could feature in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign. Al Hilal also confirmed that defender Steve Ebuela has switched his nationality from DR Congo to Sudan.

Adetunji began his professional career with Abia Warriors in 2017 before enjoying spells with Enyimba, Lobi Stars, and Czech side Příbram, where he made appearances for both the reserves and the senior team.

The prolific striker later returned to Nigeria to play for Lobi Stars, Plateau United, and Abia Warriors before joining Rivers United in January 2021. His fine form earned him a move to North Macedonia, signing for KF Shkupi in August 2021.

Adetunji had an impressive debut season with Shkupi, scoring 20 goals to finish as the league’s top scorer and helping the club secure their first-ever league title.

In September 2023, he completed a move to Serbian side FK Čukarički as a free agent. He made an instant impact, scoring a spectacular goal on his debut against Red Star Belgrade and winning a crucial penalty in the same match.

The 26-year-old made his only senior appearance for Nigeria on July 4, 2021, coming on as a substitute in a 4–0 friendly loss to Mexico.
