Briggs: Fubara Claimed He Bought Vehicles — If Ibas Didn’t Use Them, They Should Still Be There

Human rights activist Ann-Kio Briggs has called for accountability from Ibas, who governed Rivers State during the emergency rule. In an interview, she stressed that Ibas must explain how he managed the state’s funds and respond to the concerns of Rivers people about how their resources were spent.

In a video shared by, Briggs criticized Ibas for claiming that he was only accountable to those who appointed him and not to the people of Rivers State. She described that position as showing a lack of credibility and transparency. She argued that it was unfair for anyone to say that citizens should stop asking questions about what happened under his leadership, adding that demanding answers is a right, not a witch-hunt.

She said that if Ibas truly had nothing to hide, he should be open about how he handled the state’s affairs. Briggs also referred to Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s statement that vehicles had been purchased for traditional rulers before the emergency rule began.

According to her, if Ibas did not interfere with or remove those vehicles, then they should still be in the government’s possession for distribution to the traditional rulers.

In her words, “We heard the governor was saying he had bought vehicles for traditional rulers before he left, well, if Ibas didn’t touch those vehicles, those vehicles should still be there. And tell traditional rulers should have their vehicles.”
