Celebrity barman Cubana Chief Priest has opened up about his mother’s unfulfilled wish for him to join the Catholic priesthood, while announcing plans to release a tribute song in her memory.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, he revealed that his mother prayed for years to conceive and, after giving birth to his elder brother Onyinyechukwu (“Gift from God”), welcomed him following a complicated delivery. She named him Chibuike, meaning “God is my strength,” and vowed to dedicate her child’s life to God’s service.
Growing up, his mother strongly encouraged him to pursue priesthood, even pushing him towards the seminary. However, he admitted he could not make it, adding that he still carries the guilt of not fulfilling her wish.
“I did my best to gain admission to the seminary, but I couldn’t make it to Catholic priesthood because many are called but few are chosen,” he wrote. “Everyday I live with the guilt that I disappointed my mama by not becoming a Catholic priest. She wanted to be called ‘Mama Father,’ but rather I became the Chief Priest.”
Chief Priest, who lost his mother nearly a decade ago, described her passing as a major turning point in his life, influencing his family, friendships, career, and wealth.
To honour her legacy, he announced that he has recorded a Catholic thanksgiving song, produced by Masterkraft and featuring rapper Zoro, which he plans to release soon.
“But the fact remains that I’m still doing God’s work. I had to do this thanksgiving Catholic Christian song to honor my late mom and also thank God for the numerous blessings that have come my way,” he said.
The entertainer noted that the track will be released once he reaches a milestone of fan engagement on his social media page.
