Popular actress and content creator, Kemi Ikuseedun, better known to fans as Mummy Wa, has opened up about some of the pressures that come with fame and life in the public eye.
Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, the actress who is famous for her role as the wife in skits alongside comedian Mr Macaroni said, many people often confuse her on-screen persona with her real self.
“Being in the public eye means people form opinions about you based on what they see on screen,” she said. “As Mummy Wa, I’m a wife and mother, and people sometimes forget there’s a real person behind that character. Relationships require privacy, but when you’re in entertainment, your personal life is always under scrutiny. It takes maturity and understanding to separate Kemi from Mummy Wa.”

When asked about the purpose of her comedy skits, Ikuseedun explained that not every video needs to carry a deep or serious message.
“Sometimes, people just want to laugh and forget their problems,” she said. “But comedy can still reflect real life in powerful ways. My skits are humorous, but they also touch on the realities of marriage, family, love, and society. It’s great when people laugh and still say, ‘That’s so true.’”
On staying relevant in the ever-evolving social media world, the actress emphasized the importance of authenticity and balance.
“Social media moves fast, trends change every day and it’s easy to feel pressured to keep up. But for me, the key is staying true to myself,” she explained. “People connect more with realness than trends. Consistency can also be tough because creating at a high level all the time takes energy and creativity. You have to keep evolving without losing your voice.”
Kemi Ikuseedun continues to be one of Nigeria’s most recognizable comedy stars, admired for her ability to blend humour with relatable storytelling.
