Lazio’s Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to Undergo Tests After Derby Injury

Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru will undergo medical tests to determine the severity of the thigh injury he sustained during Lazio’s 1-0 defeat to AS Roma in the Serie A Derby Capitale on Sunday.

The 24-year-old started the match at the Stadio Olimpico but lasted only 14 minutes before being replaced by Reda Belahyane after aggravating a muscle problem.

Dele-Bashiru had reportedly missed Friday’s training session due to discomfort but was cleared to play following a late decision by Lazio’s technical staff. His absence was felt as Lorenzo Pellegrini’s 38th-minute strike sealed victory for Roma.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nigerian international will undergo scans to assess the extent of the injury. Should he be ruled out, Belahyane is expected to step in for next Monday’s Serie A clash against Genoa.

Despite not being a favourite of manager Maurizio Sarri, Dele-Bashiru has featured in all four of Lazio’s opening league fixtures, aided by a transfer ban that prevented the club from signing new players in the summer.
