There have been several reactions from social media users after it was announced that former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar will not be stepping down for a younger candidate in the forthcoming presidential election in 2027.

This was contained in a post that Paul Ibe, the Special Adviser on Media to the former Vice President shared on his official X handle on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

This statement is coming after some media organizations reported that the former Vice President has agreed to step down for a younger candidate in the African Democratic Congress.

However, Paul Ibe has now shared his thoughts after the report surfaced online. In a post that he shared on his official X handle, he clarified that the former Vice President didn’t say he will step down for anybody.

Paul Ibe said Atiku will participate in the election and if a younger person wins, he will support the person.

Here is what Paul Ibe wrote on his official X handle;

“While interpretative journalism is a legitimate aspect of reporting, stretching interpretation to the point of mischief is unacceptable and must not be encouraged. For the records, therefore, the insinuations attributed to the Waziri Adamawa from his BBC Hausa interview are inaccurate and do not reflect what he actually said”..See, More, Here>>>
