According to Channels Television, the Sokoto State Government has firmly denied any intentions to dethrone the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III. This announcement comes just a day after Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, emphasized the importance of safeguarding the Sultanate, urging the Sokoto government to protect this revered institution. The government’s statement, released on Tuesday by spokesperson Abubakar Bawa, condemned the rumors as unfounded and baseless.
