Nigerian social media critic and activist Martin Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has announced the launch of a new civic initiative under the Ratel Movement aimed at driving community service across the country.
In a viral video posted on Facebook on Wednesday, VDM revealed that the movement will kick off monthly community clean-up exercises on Saturday, November 29, 2025.
According to him, the goal is to address environmental challenges and inspire patriotism among Nigerian youths.
“Starting from the 29th of November, 2025, which will be on a Saturday, we the Ratel Movement are taking over Nigeria. We are shutting down this country,” VDM said in the video. He clarified that the “shutdown” was not about violence but about impact.
The activist outlined the planned activities, which include:
- Cleaning public spaces
- Clearing blocked drainages
- Rehabilitating school facilities
- Other grassroots community services
VDM emphasized that the initiative is designed to move young Nigerians from online activism to real-world action.
“We are going to start what has never been seen before in Nigeria. We are going to be moving from just being on social media claiming to be Ratels to presenting ourselves in real life and impacting our society,” he said.
The announcement has sparked widespread interest on social media, with many supporters pledging to participate in the inaugural exercise.
