Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has played down speculation linking him with a return to Real Madrid, insisting his full attention remains on the Bundesliga champions.
Reports in Spain suggest Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti could leave at the end of the season, fueling talk of Alonso as a potential successor.
When quizzed by reporters, the former Los Blancos midfielder acknowledged his affection for the Spanish giants but stressed his current focus.
“Already questions on Real Madrid?! [laughs] Time goes by, but the affection remains.
Our bond is very strong, that is clear, but my total focus is on Bayer Leverkusen now; that’s in my mind,” Alonso said.
Alonso enhanced his reputation last season by guiding Leverkusen to a historic unbeaten Bundesliga title and reaching the Europa League final, where they lost 3-0 to Atalanta.
